How to split a PDF

Splitting a PDF means taking a single document and pulling out one or more of its pages into a new, smaller file. It is the natural counterpart to merging, and just as useful. Maybe you only need to send a single signed page from a long contract, want to share one chapter of a manual, or need to separate a scanned batch back into individual documents. To use it, choose your PDF and then type the pages you want to keep. The page selector accepts ranges and individual pages together — for example, entering 1-3, 5, 8-10 creates a new PDF containing pages one, two, three, five, eight, nine and ten, in that order. The tool reads how many pages your document has and lets you know, so you never have to guess.

Tips for splitting

• Page numbers start at 1 and refer to the document's page order, not any printed numbering.
• You can mix ranges and single pages freely, separated by commas.
• The extracted pages appear in the order you list them, so you can reorder while you split.
• To split one document into many separate files, run the tool several times with different ranges.
